We accomplished one of our major tasks by purchasing a tow vehicle. We found a 2003 Chevy Suburban. it was more difficult than expected given our specific needs. This particular Suburban meets our criteria- the 8.1L V-8, heavy-duty transmission, towing package, and 4.1 differential. As an added bonus, it has second-row captains seats which will make it easy for the kids to access the third row.
Once we get the Suburban, we’ll assess its readiness for towing. We may have to upgrade the hitch, may need an electronic brake controller, and take care of a few other loose ends. Once we get that finished, we’ll begin looking for the travel trailer.
Anyway, I’ll be flying to Massachusetts tomorrow to pick it up. I conned Jesse Scott into joining me for the trip as it will be an excruciatingly-long drive back to Michigan (950 miles.) Jesse and I decided to stop at some point and explore some trails. The trail runner in us couldn’t resist the novel running opportunity. Ideally, I’d like to find a mountain to run up and down. Any suggestions?
On the life simplification front, Shelly and I will be holding a huge garage sale this Thursday and Friday in an attempt to eliminate a lot of our remaining possessions that aren’t necessary for our day-to-day living. We’ll be selling off everything from furniture to tools to appliances. Hopefully this will dramatically lighten our load.
Once we eliminate the excess, we can seriously begin planning what we will need to take with us. It’s like packing for a trip, only longer.
